Firecracker Hot Dogs Wrapped (Printable version)

Crescent dough wraps hot dogs, brushed with butter and baked until golden — perfect for parties and cookouts.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Meats

01 - 8 beef or turkey hot dogs

→ Dough & Pastry

02 - 1 can (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough
03 - 8 thin slices cheddar or American cheese (optional)

→ Toppings

04 - 2 tablespoons melted butter
05 - 1 teaspoon garlic powder
06 - 2 tablespoons sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
07 - 8 wooden skewers

→ Garnishes

08 - Ketchup (for serving, optional)
09 - Mustard (for serving, optional)

# How to Make It:

01 - Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - Insert a wooden skewer lengthwise into each hot dog, leaving 1 to 2 inches exposed to serve as the stick.
03 - Unroll the crescent dough and separate into 8 triangles. If using, place a cheese slice on each triangle.
04 - Place a hot dog at the wide end of each crescent triangle and roll up tightly so the dough spirals around the hot dog.
05 - Lay each wrapped hot dog on the prepared baking sheet.
06 - Brush the dough with melted butter, then sprinkle with garlic powder and, if desired, sesame or poppy seeds.
07 - Transfer to the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
08 - Serve warm with ketchup and mustard for dipping.

# Expert tips:

01 -
  • The satisfying crunch when you bite into the buttery, golden crust feels like a little secret treat inside the celebration.
  • Once you see how much fun everyone has dipping and assembling these, you'll find yourself wanting to make them for every gathering.
02 -
  • If the dough gets too warm while assembling, it sticks and tears—chill it briefly to firm things back up.
  • Once I tried skipping the butter out of habit, and the result just wasn’t the same—never underestimate the importance of that golden glaze.
03 -
  • Roll the dough a little tighter at the ends to stop cheese from leaking out—messy mats are less fun to clean.
  • Swirl a pattern of ketchup or mustard on the serving platter to keep things festive and easy to grab.
